Nisha Kothari , the voluptuous belle who sadly doesn’t have a hit film to her credit, wants to be called Priyanka Kothari from now on. She says Priyanka is her real name.

It seems she is not happy with the screen name given to her and wants to change it. Does it have something to do with the name not being lucky for her?“No,” says Nisha. “I was named Priyanka by my father. But when I joined the industry, there was already a Priyanka. So I took on the assumed name Nisha. But I was never comfortable with it. Whenever someone called me Nisha, I felt odd. I had been thinking of reverting to my original name for a while,” Nisha – oops, Priyanka – is quoted as saying.

Nisha Kothari, the new 'Hot Babe in Bollywood', was born as Priyanka in the Bengali-speaking Kothari family on November 30, 1989 in Kolkota. Her dad is a chemical businessman, mom is a home-maker, and she has an elder sister who is married. As a child she grew up in Kolkota, but most of her teen years were spent in Delhi where the family re-located subsequently. She is a Science Graduate from Dayal Singh College, which is an affiliate of Delhi University. She comes from a very conservative background but had always wanted to become an actress. She speaks English, Bengali, Hindi, and even a little bit of Rajasthani.

Her acting career started with modeling. She modeled initially in Mumbai. During one of the commercial shoots for Pepsi, which featured actor Madhvan also, she had a brush with the chance. She met him, showed her photographs and convinced him that she had it in her to make it big. Madhvan arranged an audition for her in Chennai, and she was signed for a Tamil movie titled 'Jay Jay' during the year 2003. A beginning was made and later, Nisha Kothari also appeared in a Telugu movie 'Madhyanam Hatya' during 2004. In both the Tamil and Telugu movies she had a screen name of Amoha. She has also modeled with Indian Cricketer Kapil Dev.

Hit And Run

A 26-year-old pregnant woman was injured after being allegedly hit by a car in which actress Nisha Kothari was travelling at the Mumbai domestic airport on 02 Jan 2008 morning, police said.

Heena Jamtani was hit by Nisha’s car while she was alighting from an auto rickshaw at the airport, they said. The police are yet to register an offence in connection with the incident as the investigating officer in the case was helping Jamtani in getting admitted, a senior police officer from the Santacruz airport police station said. Meanwhile, the family has said that this is not a case of hit-and-run as Nisha’s driver attended to the victim and took her to the hospital. The driver also left Nisha’s number with the hospital authorities.
